Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)
Cosmetic nasal surgery, also called rhinoplasty, is designed to improve the shape, size and general appearance of the nose. It can also be very effective at correcting functional nasal problems, such as a deviated septum. Our experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Timothy Best, can help you meet your needs with advanced rhinoplasty procedures.
Many people may not like the appearance of their noses for a myriad of reasons. Natural development, trauma, nasal effects resulting from the aging process, or nasal effects secondary to a disease process are just some of the factors leading to dissatisfaction with nasal appearance or function. Rhinoplasty can address a number of cosmetic concerns and improve balance and harmony between the nose and other facial features. This procedure can have an effect on your entire facial aesthetic, and has helped patients the world over feel more confident about their appearance. For functional nasal problems, rhinoplasty can correct a deviated septum and help patients breathe easier through the nose. In fact, in the appropriate circumstances and depending on your individual needs and goals, cosmetic rhinoplasty can be combined with internal surgery to improve nasal breathing if it is problematic.
Rhinoplasty can be performed as soon as skeletal growth is complete, approximately 14 years of age in girls and 16-17 years in boys. Surgery is performed through the nostrils, often with the aid of a small incision across the columella (the skin between the two nostrils). Any residual scarring is often virtually unnoticeable. Improvement can usually be noted within 1 week of surgery, and typically continues for at least 6 to 9 months after surgery.
Nose surgery can often be performed as a day-procedure, and many patients are able to return home the evening of treatment. During your initial consultation and once Dr. Best has evaluated your specific needs, he will discuss all of your options with you, as well as all aspects of the rhinoplasty procedure. He will also answer any questions you may have, and talk with you about what you can expect before and during the rhinoplasty procedure, as well as in the recovery process.
