Facelift

mature face modelA facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical treatment to reduce many of the signs of facial aging. This very popular procedure is designed to tighten and lift loose and sagging skin, muscle, and fatty tissue for a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Our experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Timothy Best, focuses on using facelift techniques designed to yield results that not only look beautiful, but also natural. Dr. Best can significantly diminish deep wrinkles and signs of age along the face with this effective procedure, helping you to rejuvenate your appearance and feel more self-confident in the way you look.

Facelift Treatment

The most common facial areas that people desire to be improved are the jowls along the jawline, the folds that develop around the nose and the mouth, and excess skin and fat and folds in the neck area.

Dr. Best’s approach is to individualize the treatment to meet each patient’s needs, to produce a natural-looking appearance – rejuvenated but not overdone, avoiding the windswept and “odd” look that stigmatizes poorly done facelift surgery.

Facelift surgery does not “stop the clock” – we all continue to age, and our facial appearance is controlled by factors such as genetics, health, weight changes, smoking, and environmental exposures. However, by correcting many or most of the sagging and skin looseness changes, facelift surgery can be an excellent rejuvenation option enjoyed by many patients. For some, however, their concerns are predominantly the fine wrinkling and irregular pigmentation that sometimes affects the aging face – these changes are not affected by facelift surgery, but are improved by other approaches such as chemical peels.

Incisions for facelift surgery are typically placed along the hairline and in discreet areas near the temples and the ears, so any residual scarring should be virtually invisible to others. The treatment can typically be performed as a day-procedure. There is a recovery process; however, it will differ with each patient. Dr. Best will explain all aspects of facelift surgery to you before the procedure so that you will know what to expect.

Mini-Facelift

Many patients can also benefit from a mini-lift, a less invasive procedure than a full facelift. This surgery is chosen when there are less-advanced changes that need correction, and has the advantage of a quicker recovery and return to normal activities. Other patients, in addition to their face and neck, benefit from rejuvenation of the eyelids, brows and forehead – this is then combined with the facelift in one surgical setting.
